Welcoming the Troops!
Many Charlestonians are familiar with Charleston Ballet Theatre from its performances throughout the year, especially the holiday family favorite The Nutcracker. Fewer are aware of the other great treasures the Ballet shares with the community, including training for pre professional dancers through Charleston Ballet Theatre Apprentice and Trainee Program and the CBT School. Well Monday is the company’s first day back to work.
This season Charleston Ballet Theatre will produce ten ballet and dance programs; Our Main stage Series will consist of six productions at both our King Street Black Box Theatre and the Sottile Theatre at the College of Charleston; our new Children’s Series will produce three family friendly programs at our Black Box Theatre and CBT will produce on Special Event Performance during the 2007-2008 as an addition to our regular series. However, our role in the community and goes far beyond entertainment. We also express commitment to the people of Charleston and the Lowcountry through the follow programs:
STUDENT MATINEES: -For many years CBT has offered school day performances of our Mainstage productions at discounted prices to LowCountry public & private school students as well as home schooled groups.
APPRENTICESHIPS – CBT offers an extensive apprentice education program, allowing aspiring dancers to learn and flourish in a professional structured dance environment.
INTERNSHIPS – We offer internship opportunities to high school and college students interested in not only the art of dance but the equally important aspects of arts administration & theatrical production work behind thescenes.
CBT SCHOOL – CBT offers extensive dance education programs through both our dance education studios in three locations now, James Island, Mt. Pleasant as well as our downtown Black Box Theatre. Our classes range from Kinderdance, Pre-Ballet to Advanced classes as well as jazz and tap.
BROADWAY DANCE PROJECT – Our full scale learning and performance experience allows talented youth interested in Musical Theatre a chance to participate in classes and performances structured around the best of Broadway musicals.
CBT JUNIOR COMPANY – This by invitation program is geared toward advanced dancers who take 5 or more classes per week. This intensive educational experience also allows aspiring young dancers the chance to perform on stage with their professional counterparts in CBT productions such as The Nutcracker and Peter Pan.
PICCOLO SPOLETO PERFORMANCES – In addition to CBT’s season of ten full scale productions, the company performs daily throughout the two week festival rotating in repertory two to three different ballets throughout the entire festival.
I am very excited to have a treasure chest of these talented dancers with us for the upcoming season,” “The success of our school and apprentice and trainee programs filters up to our professional company and contributes to the overall success of Charleston Ballet Theatre .”
